Hipcamp Spots Between Brisbane & Cape York
We finally got to try out a few Hipcamp sites on our most recent trip up to The Cape (tip of QLD) and we were blown away with what was on offer!
Hipcamp is a website and app that links campers to private properties that offer camping spots. The concept is very similar to Airbnb and works as seamlessly. You find an incredible camp spot by filtering out what you do and don’t want in a location you need, decide on your dates, book in and pay for your stay and then communicate with the host via the app.
We booked our Hipcamp stays very last minute in true Dog & Gun style and managed to find 4 incredible dog friendly, water front camping spots close to the highway that felt a world away! We stopped near Rockhampton, Airlie Beach, Townsville and Mareeba.
1st stop: Fairy Wrenn - Near Rockhampton QLD - $30 AUD Per Night
This spot was great for an easy over nighter. The property owner provided a fire pit, wood and a bin! The campsite was right beside a beautiful stream and there was enough space between us and other campers. The mozzies were biting which was the case the whole trip up so definitely recommend repellants!
2nd stop: Conway Creek Camping - Near Airlie QLD - $25 AUD Per Night
This spot was in an incredible location next to a beautiful rocky creek but also really close to the beach and would be perfect for a few days stay with big groups. Nothing was provided so best to bring your own wood for fires. This property had plenty of campsites so expect big groups celebrating and having a good time!
3rd stop: Crystal Ridge- Near Ingham QLD - $40 AUD Per Night
Our favourite spot! This property had lovely inquisitive cows that came right into camp and the most beautiful wide creek to swim in. We luckily got this campsite all to ourselves but it would be perfect for big families or groups looking to stay for a few days. Bring the kayaks or blow ups for the creek and treats for the cows!
4th stop: Barron River Retreat: Near Atherton QLD - $50 AUD Per Night
The last stop was the prettiest. This campsite was completely private so we didn’t have to share it with anyone else and the owner was very thoughtful and provided a camp hot shower system, fire wood and kindling, kayaks, a fire pit and fairy lights amongst the trees. The river is away from the campsite so mozzies weren’t too bad and it looked awesome for kayaking! This camp spot is massive and would be incredible for a big groups or celebration.
